# Edit an ad

> Read why an ad was built the way it was, fix the copy, change the image with a written instruction, and spin off variations.

Open any ad from **Ad library**. You get the image, a short explanation of the thinking behind it, and the ad copy. The copy and the image can both be changed without regenerating from scratch.

## Why this creative

The **Why this creative** panel shows an **Angle** chip and, when Sellify has them, **Awareness** and **Funnel** chips. Read it before changing anything. An ad that looks wrong is often aimed at a different stage of the customer's journey than the one you had in mind.

## The ad copy

Three fields sit with the image:

| Field | Limit |
| ---------------- | ------------- |
| **Primary text** | No counter |
| **Headline** | 60 characters |
| **Description** | 60 characters |

Each field is editable in place and shows a character counter where a limit applies. Saving an edited field is a small metered action (about 0.2 credits, see [costs](#what-it-costs)).

**Regenerate copy** rewrites the copy without touching the image (about 0.3 credits). If you have edited some fields yourself, Regenerate replaces only the automatic copy and keeps your edits; tick **Replace edited copy too** if you want everything rewritten.

> **Backup copy means it needs a read**
>
> When the automatic copy fails its checks, the ad shows a **Backup copy** badge and the notice "We could not write copy from the image, so this ad uses simpler text." The backup is built from your product details. Read it before the ad goes live, or use **Regenerate copy**. The notice also states the reason, for example that the AI copy failed the claim checks on every attempt or that the copy model timed out.

## Edit the image

**Edit image** opens the editor for the ad you are viewing.

1. **Describe the change**

Write the instruction in plain language. The placeholder suggests "Try: make the headline more relatable to busy moms". The field takes up to 2,000 characters. Change one thing at a time; short, specific instructions succeed more often than long ones.

2. **Attach references if useful**

**Add asset** attaches up to 5 images, PNG, JPEG or WebP, 8 MB each. Attaching more, or a different file type, shows a message naming the rule.

3. **Check the aspect ratio**

**Aspect Ratio** offers **1:1 (Square)**, **4:5 (Portrait)**, **16:9 (Landscape)** and **9:16 (Story / Reel)**. Edited images come out at exactly 1080×1080, 1080×1350, 1920×1080 or 1080×1920 pixels, the sizes Meta expects.

4. **Submit**

The button shows the estimated cost (about 14 credits). Sellify confirms with "Image edit started" and the new version appears when it is ready.

**Remove background** strips the background from the version you are looking at (about 0.05 credits). It is a separate action from a prompted edit.

## Versions

Every edit creates a new version instead of overwriting the last one. **Previous** and **Next** step through them, with a counter such as **2 / 3** showing where you are.

**Save current version** makes the version you are viewing the one the library, folders and downloads use. That is also how you undo: step back to the version you liked and save it.

A version that failed shows "Version N failed" with the reason and a **Retry** control. An edit that never starts is released after 30 minutes, and one that starts but never finishes is marked failed after 90 minutes ("Image edit timed out. Please try again."), so a stuck edit stops blocking the ad on its own.

## Create variations

**Create variation** takes an ad you like and generates new ones from it. Describe what should change (the placeholder suggests "change the headline to focus on saving time, use a warmer color palette"), choose **1**, **3**, **5**, **8** or **10** variations, and submit.

Variations run as a separate generation. The original ad is not overwritten. The run shows up under **Recent generations** with the **Variation** category, and each result is a normal ad you can edit, file and download.

This is the fastest way to test one idea properly: get one ad right, then spin off variations of the headline rather than starting over.

## Other controls on an open ad

**Download** saves the current version. **Save to folders** files the ad. **Delete** removes it from **All ads** and every folder (it can be restored, see [Find, review and download your ads](https://sellify.ai/docs/create-ads/library-and-downloads)). When you opened the ad from a folder, **Remove** takes it out of that folder only.

**Destination URL for your Meta ad** shows the product page the ad should send people to, with **Copy** and **Open**. Check it before you launch anything.

## What it costs

Provider configuration can override these figures; the button always shows the estimate before you confirm, and work is charged on success only.

## If something is not right

### My image edit timed out

**Why this happens:** the edit ran too long and was marked failed so it stopped blocking the ad.

**What to do:** use **Retry**, or submit the instruction again. Shorter, more specific instructions tend to succeed where long ones stall.

### The ad shows Backup copy

**Why this happens:** the automatic copy failed its checks or the copy service did not answer, so Sellify used simpler text built from your product details. The image itself is fine.

**What to do:** read the copy, edit the fields you need, or use **Regenerate copy**.

### I edited the image and want the original back

**Why this happens:** edits stack as versions rather than replacing each other, so nothing was lost.

**What to do:** open **Edit image**, use **Previous** to step back to the version you want, then select **Save current version**.
