# Do I need a product to use Ad Spy?

**No.** Ad Spy works before you have set anything up. Search, follow brands, browse expert picks and save ads to boards straight away.

A product is needed for two things only:

- **Recreate with my product**, because recreation has to know what it is adapting the ad to. The dialog asks you to pick a product.
- The **Recommended for your product** strip on the **Following** page, which matches brands to a product you select.

Browsing first is a reasonable way to start. Seeing what your competitors run often makes it clearer what your own product page should emphasize. Ad Spy is metered, though: searching, opening ads and fetching followed brands use small amounts of credits, so check [Understand credits](https://sellify.ai/docs/credits) before a long session.
